RIJHA Celebrates 75 Years of Preserving Rhode Island Jewish History

The Rhode Island Jewish Historical Association celebrated its 75th Anniversary at its Annual Meeting on April 26, marking an important milestone in the organization’s long history of preserving and sharing the stories of Rhode Island’s Jewish community. The celebration featured a proclamation from U.S. Senator Jack Reed recognizing RIJHA’s contributions, the election of new officers and board members, and a special presentation by Rhode Island Historian Laureate Keith Stokes, Judah Touro: Faith, Family and Freedom: The World that Shaped Judah Touro.
Founded in 1951, RIJHA is the oldest Jewish historical society in continuous operation in the United States. For 75 years, the Association has collected, preserved, and shared the history of Rhode Island’s Jewish community through its archives, publications, educational programs, and outreach. As we look to the future, we remain committed to ensuring these stories are preserved for generations to come.
